Melon Post harvest - Packing and Cold Storage

Developed by Mark Bell, Corky Lovin, Mark Henderson - UC Davis International Programs Office (Nov 2009) " What is Melon Packing and Cold Storage? Packing refers to placing melons into standard sized boxes after inspection. Melons should then be moved into a refrigerated cold storage room. Why is Packing and Cold Storage Important? Proper packing protects melons from physical damage. Throwing out melons with rot will reduce the spread disease. Cold storage decreases melon respiration which increases shelf life and maintains quality. "
