Faryab is famous for karakul (fat-tailed sheep) skins, cashmere and wool carpets, since the majority of inhabitants are involved in animal husbandry. Important crops include wheat, melon, watermelon, grapes, alfalfa, and sesame.

Potential Development Themes

Potential areas for development include animal husbandry, agricultural productivity, pasture improvement, value adding (product processing), finding markets for carpets and karakul skins, post-harvest technology, and irrigation system improvement.
