F&W - Framework for Reforestation Book - English

PDF Prepared by MAIL, USDA, USAID "What are some reasons for why people will plant trees? People will plant trees for a variety of reasons: • Fruits • Nuts • Construction poles and wood • Windbreaks • Beautification • Stopping soil erosion • Fodder • Picnic areas and shade • Stabilizing hillsides • Preventing landslides and avalanches • Improving soil fertility • Medicines • Fuelwood • Wildlife These are all good reasons to plant trees. However, people may still need incentives to plant the trees as well as additional incentives to maintain and protect the trees. The type of incentive depends on the type or purpose of the planting. The reasons behind planting are often linked to the incentives used to compensate people for the work."
