Kandahar is famous for producing grapes and kishmish (raisins), pomegranates, palms, and apricots. Animal husbandry plays a big role in the province economy and includes the large population of Kuchi nomadic herders.

Potential areas for development include improved animal husbandry, pasture improvement, horticulture (e.g., nursery improvement), value adding (product processing), post-harvest technology, and irrigation system improvement.
